Abstract:
The purpose of the study was to highlights the contribution and achievements of Arjun Awardee and the Captain of Indian Hockey Team, Sardar Singh towards the promotion of sports in the country and his socio-economic conditions, cultural background. The data for investigation were derived from Personal Records, Official Records, Interview, Pictorial Records and Published Records. Survey Techniques were used to obtain responses and reactions about Arjun Awardee, Sardar Singh from selected eminent sports persons, contemporaries, coaches And physical educationists from all over the country through opinion rating Questionnaire to get desired information. Sardar Singh has usually played the center half Position in India National Hockey team.He has also become the youngest player to captain the Indian national hockey team in the 2008 in Sultan Azlan Shah Hockey Tournament, and part of the 2009 team as well which won the cup. He has been the member of the Indian Hockey team’s 2007 Asia cup Gold medal at Chennai, 2007 & 2009 Champions Challenge bronze medal at Boom & Salta, 2010 Asian Games Bronze Medal Guangzhou, 2010 Commonwealth Games Silver Medal at Delhi, 2011 Champions Challenge Silver medal at Johannesburg. 2011 Champions Challenge Silver medal at Johannesburg. He has captained the Indian hockey squad in 2013 Asia Cup Silver Medal at Ipoh, 2014 Asian Games Gold Medal at Incheon, 2014 Commonwealth Games Silver medal at Glasgow, and 2015 World league bronze medal at Raipur for the country. He has also been the member of Indian Hockey team 2017 Asia CupGold Medal at Dhaka. He was the recipient of Arjuna Award in 2012 and has been honoured with Padam Shree in 2015 and Rajeev Gandhi Khel Ratan Award in 2017.
